A sign of a mild winter/spring
After the wonderful heat of February, March to me has felt decidedly chilly but I am cheered up by my Rhododendron sinogrande. It has never flowered so early:
I was very surprised to see pots of bedding begonias which had been left out all winter to the elements beginning to sprout. Had no idea they would every come through a winter with no protection at all, and in pots as well, so fully exposed. Now potted up in the greenhouse to give loads of free bonus plants this year:

How lucky are you It seems that the milder weather has been good for rhododendron flowering. Lots of rhodies flowering more and earlier. I was looking a week ago methinks of Mallotum flowering in in yorkshire

Re: A sign of a mild winter/spring
I take it middle England has turned into a warm temperate climate now! My rhodos and camelias are still tight budded....only the yellow stuff(daffs, forsythia, jaminum nudiflorum and primroses)is flowering at the moment. I do have a couple of pink and mauve clover types in the lawn to add a bit of variety! And aubretia, the aubretia is flowering!

Re: A sign of a mild winter/spring
Gary, how bizarre. Camellias have been in flower here for well over a month. A couple of mine are now going over and my Edgeworthia is well over. It has been lovely to see Camellias, edgeworthias, rhododendrons, magnolias, crocus, daffodils, primroses and tulips etc etc all flowering together giving a mass of colour. I can't remember a spring like it. Walking around the local streets is a joy - I have never seen such a fabulous display, especially of magnolias and camellias, many of which would rival the specimens in the acknowledged gardens.

Add a red tulip to my list! I can't be doing with this single file flowering lark, it's probably why I refer palms and ferns

I've noticed the camellias have really enjoyed it. Extra flowering. Mine are small. Been flowering from January. It's three times I've deadheaded now and still a few flowers. The period is longer.
