Billbergia Fantasia.
It took 3-4 years, but its blooming now. It was the brom in my pointalism pot -remember?. A hardy beauty.
I changed to the correct name. When people Google..they will come here.

Re: Billbergia orlandiana 'Rainbow'
Creative naming there, but this isn't a valid species name for any Billbergia, according to the registry of cultivars at www.fcbs.org. You've got this confused with Aechmea orlandiana, perhaps.

Re: Billbergia orlandiana 'Rainbow'
Looks more like the white spotted Billbergia "Fantasia" an old pyramidalis cross...though the flowers are rather pale, many other named hybrids exist. Aechmea orlandiana is very different and easy to recognize.

Re: Billbergia orlandiana 'Rainbow'
I still have the original label from the SF Brom society in the planter- and it says Billbergia 'rainbow'. Now,if its a mix up..could be. I did look on the net...and the flower looks Billbergia more then Aechmea, soft too. Like Ricks pics,it doesnt quite match anything online either I could find. I bought three broms that day..the other two died in winters,or my fault. This one lived and did well.
And possibly..the label belonged to one of them. But I think Ric has it figured out darn close.

Re: Billbergia orlandiana 'Rainbow'
Clarification, it is obviously a Billbergia, but there is no Billbergia with "orlandiana" as a species name. There are quite a few hybrid Billbergia's with that spotted foliage , Fantasia is one of them. I've found these more heavily white spotted Billbergias to be less tolerant of winter wet and cold than most other hybrid Billbergias I've grown, B. pyramidalis just doesn't do well left out in winter rains for me; it always rots out and seldom blooms, yet grows like a weed in south Florida. There are some really excellent Billbergia hybrids created by Don Beadle of Florida, who worked with Billbergias extensively.
