Cyathea medullaris defoliated
Unfortunately when I was working all night a few weeks ago the temperature in the garden dropped way below what was predicted to minus 2c instead of forecasted min 3/4c that night and my C.medullaris fronds got fried by the frost. The centre of the crown felt nice and solid so I thought this was just a temporary blip until these new croziers can through but have since read that if a Cyathea gets defoliated it can set the plant back months if not longer. The plant is now in a cool room in the house but the solid feeling knuckles in the crown haven't moved. What can I expect, and what is the best solution to this set back?
Regards. Chris

Re: Cyathea medullaris defoliated
Chris, one of my C. medullaris pretty much defoliated this winter too. I immediately put it inside in a veneer house with constant high humidity and temps north of 10 C. I recommend you do the same if you can.

Re: Cyathea medullaris defoliated
Mine was defoliated every year, didn't seem to be a problem.

Re: Cyathea medullaris defoliated
It is true that when defoliated it just takes longer but the plant restored again While maintaining the leaf it grows more rapidly and makes it clearly more new leaves in a summer! Eduard.

Re: Cyathea medullaris defoliated
No. It is just too dry here for tree ferns. As and when mine die I have stopped replacing them.
